About Me

Dr Sharon Thompson

With an expertise in family law, the focus of my research is to challenge assumptions and stereotypes about women and law. From exposing power dynamics in prenuptial agreements and questioning the meaning and implications of the ‘gold digger’, to developing new feminist approaches to contract law that have influenced Australian jurisprudence, I re-examine family law history through a feminist lens to uncover new perspectives on how law is reformed. With equality and access to justice becoming increasingly elusive for large parts of society, I believe that feminist and relational approaches are more important than ever. Using this body of work, I aim to show how these alternative approaches to law and its history can create new solutions for reform and policy in practice.
